The relevant structures of Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached a preliminary agreement to jointly carry out search operations aimed at clarifying the fate of persons missing during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Director of the National Security Service (NSS) Armen Abazyan made the announcement during a briefing held in parliament on June 4, providing details on the outcomes of the meeting between the committees dealing with missing persons from both countries.
"Yes, the meeting took place. This was already the second meeting. The fate of the missing persons and possible search operations were discussed. There is a preliminary agreement that these operations will be continuous. I consider this meeting a positive step," the NSS director stated.
Abazyan emphasized that Armenia is particularly interested in achieving tangible results.
"I know everyone is waiting. We are the most interested party in this matter. Unfortunately, I cannot say whether there will be a result tomorrow, in five days, in a month, or in a year, but I can assure you that everything possible is being done in that direction," he said.
When asked when the search operations would begin in the territory of Azerbaijan, the NSS director responded:
"We have a preliminary agreement to jointly carry out search operations," he said, without disclosing further details.
