US President Donald Trump said Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has gone absolutely crazy” and that he is “not happy with what Putin is doing” after Moscow launched a major aerial attack on Ukraine overnight.
Trump also told reporters Sunday evening that he’s “absolutely” considering additional sanctions against Russia, which Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky has pushed for, CNN reported.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump posted on Truth Social, hours after he told reporters, “I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin.”
The US president, in his post, then turned his criticism toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said Sunday morning that “America’s silence” encourages Putin to continue his onslaught.
“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does,” Trump wrote. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
Russia said it conducted a major strike against a drone and missile production plant in Kiev on Saturday, followed by additional reported strikes on Ukrainian military facilities on Sunday.
At least 12 people were killed in the attacks across Ukraine, including children, and dozens more people were injured, CNN reported citing officials.
