US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir earlier on May 10, according to an official statement. During the call, Rubio emphasized the need for both India and Pakistan to take steps to ease tensions between them, The Daily Guardian reports.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir earlier today. He continued to urge both parties to find ways to de-escalate and offered US assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts.”
This message from Washington reflects continued concern over rising tensions between the two South Asian countries. The United States has consistently called on both nations to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful dialogue.
Highlighting the importance of quick resolution, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Friday that Rubio remains in close contact with leaders from both sides. “The President (Donald Trump) wants it to de-escalate as early as possible. Rubio is trying to bring this conflict to an end,” Leavitt said during a press briefing.
The US has made it clear that it is ready to help mediate or support efforts that promote peace and avoid further escalation of hostilities in the region.
