Major fire in one of Tbilisi's commercial areas

A significant fire is currently raging at the railway station market in Tbilisi, causing widespread concern, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.

Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze originated in areas housing clothing and various storage facilities, quickly spreading over an estimated 15,000 square meters.

Emergency management services are actively responding to the situation. Levan Museliani, head of the Tbilisi Fire and Rescue Forces, provided an update, emphasizing that firefighting teams are on-site and working diligently to contain the fire.

“According to information from the emergency hotline 112, the fire started near the Borjomi Railway Station. Our teams arrived promptly, and efforts to control the flames are currently underway. We have successfully contained the fire at this stage. Additionally, patients from nearby clinics have been evacuated to ensure their safety. The situation is under control,” Museliani stated.

In light of the major fire in the Station Square area, patients are being evacuated from surrounding clinics. Ambulances are transporting these individuals to other medical facilities.

The blaze, which ignited a few hours ago, predominantly impacted the mixed market area. While firefighting efforts continue, there have been no reported injuries to date. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine its origin.
