The European People's Party (EPP) has adopted an urgent resolution on Armenia during its ongoing congress in Valencia.
Titled "The Current Political Situation in Armenia," the resolution welcomes the domestic political developments in the country, including reforms in the areas of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
In her address, Member of the European Parliament and rapporteur on Armenia Miriam Lexmann stated that “with this resolution, we want to support the latest political developments in Armenia and assist Armenia on its initiative to start the path towards the European Union. We want to support the desire of Armenian people to strengthen the rule of law and democracy in their country, and we want to strongly support Armenia and stand by Armenia in its historic shift of its geopolitical conditions and geopolitical orientation”.
Lexmann went on saying:
“And thus, we want to allow for stronger economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of development and support of all reforms Armenia needs. The EPP values very highly that Armenia is trying to do its utmost to normalize its relations with the neighbors. We really appreciate its constructive dialogue with Türkiye, particularly today, in these days, when we observe the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. We see and appreciate the hard work and lead in the peace negotiations with Azerbaijan, despite the 2023 military offensive, when many people, dozens of thousands of Armenians, were displaced. We call that all political prisoners are immediately and unconditionally released. And we also recall the guaranteed Right of Return of the Armenian ethnic minority to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us give our full support to Armenia on its path to the European Union”.
