Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan and Mikheil Kavelashvili discuss issues related to consistent development of Armenia-Georgia cooperation

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted at the Government the delegation led by the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, who is on an official visit to Armenia, the Prime Minister’s Press office reports.

The Prime Minister welcomed the official visit of the delegation led by the President of Georgia to Armenia and once again congratulated Mikheil Kavelashvili on his election as the President of fraternal Georgia. Nikol Pashinyan wished him success in his responsible position for the benefit of fraternal Georgia, bilateral relations, and the region. “You know how much we value our bilateral relations with Georgia and have already raised our relations to the level of strategic partnership. I believe that this is a step that expresses our long-term intentions. I have always said and continue to believe that Georgia and Armenia have common interests, and we should build our relations on these interests,” said Nikol Pashinyan, adding that, in his opinion, these interests fit also in the context of the long-term development interests of the region, the South Caucasus.

Mikheil Kavelashvili thanked for the warm hospitality and noted that it was a great honor to be in the neighboring country for the first time as the President of Georgia. “It is a great honor for me, because our nations have been living side by side for centuries, our friendship has been for more than 3,000 years, which is very exemplary all over the world. I have also talked about this with the President of Armenia, and it is indeed very special that our nations exist today. Of course, our relations should deepen and develop, a strategic agreement was signed last year,” said the President of Georgia, adding that everything must be done to make the South Caucasus a powerful region. Mikheil Kavelashvili welcomed the fact that the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been agreed upon and expressed hope that it will be signed soon and there will be lasting peace and stability in the region.

The interlocutors discussed various issues on the agenda of Armenia-Georgia cooperation, which related to joint programs in the economy, tourism, infrastructure, education and other areas. The parties emphasized the intensive nature of high-level mutual visits, expressing confidence that active dialogue gives a new impetus to the promotion of cooperation in all areas.

The interlocutors touched upon the processes taking place in the region. Both sides emphasized the importance of signing a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan for ensuring long-term peace in the region.
