US President Donald Trump is confident that Vladimir Putin will follow through on his call to stop the strikes on Ukraine, which he published on the Truth Social social network on April 24, after the strikes by the Russian armed forces on the Ukrainian capital overnight.
“I am unhappy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. There is no need for this, this is not the time. Vladimir, stop it. 5,000 soldiers have died in a week. Let's make a peace deal,” the head of the White House wrote, assuring that the Russian President would take his words seriously.
At a briefing after a meeting with the Norwegian Prime Minister, the US President stressed that Washington was “putting strong pressure on both sides” to resolve the war in Ukraine. “We are very close to an agreement on the war in Ukraine,” Trump was quoted as saying by Reuters.
According to the head of the White House, Russia is "not an obstacle to peace" and "both leaders" (Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin) are interested in it. At the same time, according to Trump, energy prices affect Russia's position in the negotiations.
