President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
At the meeting, Kallas noted that the European Union highly values relations with Azerbaijan and is interested in their further development. Emphasizing the very successful and fruitful cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, Kaja Kallas stated that Azerbaijan acts as a reliable partner in ensuring Europe's energy security. Touching upon the topic of transport links, she emphasized the importance of the role of Azerbaijan in this context, which is a significant regional state located in an important geopolitical space.
During the conversation, an exchange of views on issues of ensuring lasting stability in the South Caucasus region also took place. The head of state noted that steps are being taken and discussions are underway between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a bilateral basis to normalize relations.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
Kallas, who also met with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, stated that Brussels welcomes the agreement on the text of the peace agreement:
"We had good discussions on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We actively support the strengthening of ties between the two countries, ensuring the sustainability and implementation of the peace agreement. I am pleased to welcome the agreement on the text of the peace agreement. I hope that the next steps will be more productive," Kallas noted.
Bayramov once again reiterated Baku's position that the Armenian Constitution has territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group should be suspended.
