Russia expects that by May 2025 it will be able to reach agreements on the timing of the opening of the Consulate General in Armenia’s Syunik province, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing today.
She commended the efforts of the Russian diplomats aimed at creating conditions for the establishment of the Consulate General.
Zakharova emphasized that the consistent expansion of the Russian presence in the south of the republic meets the long-term interests of Armenia, Russia and the region as a whole. She pointed out that this step can give a significant impetus to deepening trade and investment, scientific and educational, cultural and humanitarian cooperation and establishing mutually beneficial ties between Armenia’s Syunik province and Russian regions.
“Promoting the economic agenda between our countries in Syunik is becoming increasingly important in the EAEU format, in connection with the recent ratification by Iran, which borders this Armenian region, of a free trade agreement with the Union, and this aspect must be taken into account. All this will become a reliable insurance for the dynamic, peaceful, safe development of the Syunik region,” Zakharova added.
