Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran would respond to US President Donald Trump's letter "after a thorough study."
According to him, the main points of the letter sent by US President Donald Trump to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei do not differ much from the public rhetoric of the head of the White House.
"We have no grounds for releasing Trump's letter yet. Everything that has been published in the media about this letter is speculation and has no basis. Given Trump's public statements, the content of this letter is not much different from them," the diplomat said at a press conference.
Last week, Anwar Gargash, the UAE presidential adviser on diplomatic affairs, handed over to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi a letter from US President Donald Trump addressed to the Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The letter allegedly included an offer to hold nuclear talks with Tehran, which Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei apparently rejected, saying the offer was a "deception" by Washington.
Trump has previously repeatedly threatened Iran with military force if Tehran does not reach a deal with Washington on the Iranian nuclear program. The American leader signed an order to return to the policy of maximum pressure, saying that he will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. Khamenei stressed that Tehran will not negotiate under pressure.
