Mourners gathered in the northwestern Pakistani city of Bannu on Wednesday (March 5) after a pair of suicide bombers drove two vehicles filled with explosives into a security installation in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least 12 civilians, among them six children, police and rescue services said.
The blast brought down the roof of a nearby mosque soon after residents had broken their fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in a market teeming with shoppers, a military official said on condition of anonymity.
Locals were seen digging graves at a cemetery on Wednesday, in preparation for the burials of the victims of the blast as members of the community came to pray.
Police officials said the blast was likely caused by a vehicle laden with explosives. It was not immediately clear who was behind the explosion. Attacks by the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) Islamist militant group have risen in recent years against Pakistani police and military in areas near the Afghan border.
