Azerbaijan understands the importance of the alliance with the Russian Federation, and Moscow expects that Baku will be guided by this in its future actions. This was told by Russian deputy foreign minister Mikhail Galuzin to reporters and in response to a question about relations between the two countries amid the closure of the “Russian House” in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and the latter’s terminating the activities of Sputnik Azerbaijan, TASS reports.
“I am sure that official Baku understands the importance of allied cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan,” Galuzin said. “I would like to hope that our Azerbaijani partners will be guided in their future actions by an understanding of the exceptional importance of fulfilling the agreements of our leaders, which applies to the entire scope of our relations.”
Earlier in the day, Azerbaijani foreign ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada announced that Sputnik Azerbaijan, the Russia Today media group’s representative office in Azerbaijan, had ceased its activities. He added that the media group can obtain accreditation in Azerbaijan for only one correspondent.
And on February 6, Hajizada had informed that on February 3, Baku had sent a note to Moscow about terminating the activities of the “Russian House” in Baku due to it not being registered in Azerbaijan as a legal entity.
