When going for peace, why should Azerbaijan shoot in the direction of Yeraskh? We cannot explain this to the public. Sergey Bagratyan, deputy of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction, made such a statement during the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session.
In response, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan informed that it was previously announced that a metallurgical plant is being built in the Yeraskh sector. According to preliminary estimates, as a result of its launch, it will significantly contribute to the economic development of Armenia.
“First, the Azerbaijani side came up with fabricated, false, groundless environmental accusations, while we fulfill all our international obligations, including those in the environmental context, and this is a fact in the case of this plant as well, and this is not just a bare statement, but a verified one, rechecked.
And here, Azerbaijan presented false environmental accusations, after which the denial of the Armenian side was heard, and there are the international conventions it cited, the offices dealing with them, the structures where we can get further assurances or dispute or discuss the issue. And after the announcement of the position of this Armenian side, the Azerbaijani side is trying to disrupt this plan again by simply using force.
Not only, in fact, this is an encroachment on Armenia's borders, not only is it a violation of the cease-fire, but it is also a program that undermines the development of Armenia's economy by making baseless accusations and putting false justifications under it,” the Minister said.
Sergey Bagratyan responded that he considers the situation incomprehensible today when we are talking about the peace treaty.
Ararat Mirzoyan, in his turn, repeated that this way of working is unacceptable for Armenia as well, and should be unacceptable for the international community as well. “Today, the EU monitoring mission has gone to the place you mentioned, that part of Yeraskh, tomorrow, at our invitation, the representatives of the international diplomatic corps accredited to Armenia will also be present there, and we will certainly keep the issue in the center of their attention.”
