Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian described developing relations with the neighbors, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, as the priority of Iran’s foreign policy, Government of Iran reports.
Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone call with his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
Expressing dissatisfaction with some unrealistic remarks made in recent days, he described respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and not interfering in their internal affairs as an important and basic principle.
He termed official and diplomatic channels to be the best way to resolve misunderstandings and differences of opinion and emphasized that raising such issues in the media not only does not help solve the problem but also paves the way for the enemies’ abuse.
He referred to developing relations with the neighbors, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, as the priority of Iran’s foreign policy and emphasized the need to comprehensively strengthen the bilateral relations.
He invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to participate in the innovative meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran known as 3+3 in Tehran as a framework for solving regional issues through diplomacy.
Meanwhile, Bayramov referred to the recent meeting of the presidents of the two countries in Astana, he hailed negotiations between the officials of Tehran and Baku.
He emphasized Azerbaijan’s readiness to reinforce relations and resolve misunderstandings.
The two sides underlined the need to strengthen relations between different departments and institutions in order to resolve possible misunderstandings.
