The issue of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) held in Azerbaijan should be resolved on a ‘all for all’ basis, the Russian ambassador to Armenia stressed, adding that the issue of returning Armenian POWs held in Azerbaijan is one of the priorities of the Russian leadership and the Russian peacekeeping force.
“We have stated from the beginning that the captives should be exchanged on an ‘all for all’ basis. However, we will try to solve this problem in the way that is possible. Work in this direction will undoubtedly continue,” said Sergey Kopirkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia.
The substantive discussions on the issue of expanding the presence of Russian border guards in the problematic parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continue, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin emphasizes, stating that it will be announced after making relevant decisions.
“As you know, Russian border guards are deployed in different parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which helps to keep the situation on the border calm and stable. It is very important for the local population to feel safer. Discussions are underway on how to expand that presence. I think everything will be decided on the basis of Armenia’s interests in ensuring security and stability at the border, fulfilling the agreements reached at the trilateral level,” Kopirkin said.
The governor of Gegharkunik province also talks about the border situation and the deployment of Russian border guards in the region. Gnel Sanosyan does not mention specific dates, however, he considers it a ‘matter of days’. Sanosyan also refers to yesterday’s shooting, emphasizing that at the moment the situation on the border is stable, there are no new incidents.
