The Collective Security Treaty Organization is closely following the border developments in Armenia, which will be discussed in the coming days at the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers session to be held in Dushanbe, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas stated in a telephone conversation with the Acting Minister of Defense of Armenia.
Vagharshak Harutyunyan stated that despite the fact that several groups of Azerbaijani servicemen returned to their starting positions in the previous days, today some of them still remain in the territory of Armenia, and in fact, the problem created by the Azerbaijani provocation has not been resolved. The Armenian Acting Defense Minister told Zas that the Azerbaijani military is under the full control of the Armenian units, noting that large forces have accumulated on both sides of the border, and if the situation is not resolved quickly, the consequences may be unpredictable.
During the recent telephone conversation, the Acting Prime Minister of Armenia briefed Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus, member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), on the recent developments on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Pashinyan drew the interlocutor’s attention to the need to properly discuss the issue within the CSTO and the need to compare the positions of the countries included in the structure on what happened. President Lukashenko expressed concern over the situation and expressed readiness to work for a peaceful solution.
Pashinyan also had a telephone conversation with Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, CSTO member, and discussed the issue with him.
Russia is ready to assist Armenia, Azerbaijan in delimitation and demarcation, said the Russian Foreign Minister. “The Azerbaijani side was making statements after the border incident, explaining what had happened with a misunderstanding, most importantly, with the absence of a border, which should have been demarcated. Nobody there ever did that. We have suggested to the parties that to work on it. We are ready to assist them in “providing cartographic materials and consulting servicconsultation,” Lavrov said.
Vladimir Putin and Nikol Pashinyan discussed the issue of military aid many times, said Dmitry Peskov, Spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation, noting that it will be difficult to answer whether Putin received Pashinyan’s official letter. The Russian side is in constant contact with Yerevan and Baku, Peskov said, stressing that the Russian president is convinced that there is no alternative to fulfilling the trilateral statements, now vigorous efforts are being made to defuse tensions and resolve the situation on the border.
