The CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas could not answer the question whether the threat of Syrian mercenaries in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone persists. This was reported by the russian "Коммерсанть".
"We had information about the presence of mercenaries from Syria in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and their participation in hostilities, and we assessed it as a certain risk. Where are those militants now, or are they there or not? I find it difficult to answer", Zass told an online briefing today.
The CSTO Secretary General noted that the situation in Nagorno Karabakh is now under the control of the peacekeeping forces involved in the process, as well as Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"We assume that any mercenary and Syrian militant must leave the area", Stanislav Zas said.
It should be reminded that during the conflict the presence of foreign mercenaries in the region was announced by the authorities of Russia and Armenia, as well as the President of France Emanuel Macron.
