The European Union has warned Ankara that the sentencing of journalist Jan Dundar in prison for a long term violates human rights and damages Ankara-Brussels relations. This was reported by Al Arabiya.
A Turkish court has sentenced Jan Dundar, a former editor of the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet, to 27 years in prison on charges of espionage and terrorism. The editor left for Germany after the failed coup attempt in Turkey in 2016.
Official Brussels states that as a candidate country for EU membership, Turkey must immediately make clear and sustained progress in respecting the fundamental rights that are the cornerstone of EU-Turkey relations.
