“Both the President and the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation have repeated many times and I reconfirm that the sides have to determine the participant of the negotiations themselves,” said Sergey Lavrov in response to the question concerning Nagorno-Karabakh’s return to the talks.
“When the military operations were halted, Nagorno-Karabakh was a full-fledged participant to the negotiations, however at a certain phase one of Armenia’s former presidents decided that Nagorno-Karabakh’s interest must be represented by Yerevan,” Lavrov said.
“We, as co-chairs, are doing everything to ensure mutual agreement during the negotiations. We all understand that it will be impossible to develop any agreement without the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia would simply not sign,” the Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov cited the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan according to which any solution for the conflict settlement should be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
