Last week was remarkable with an event which would seem impossible a month ago. Armenian serviceman Hakob Injigulyan who was held captive in Azerbaijan over one year was back. Hakob’s story, we may say, is “typical.”
The Azerbaijani side started its propaganda machine with full capacity of falsehood, after capturing him. All the civilians are presented as saboteurs or spies. Re – soldiers, Azerbaijani side tags them as defectors who go over to Azernbaijan because of the “inhumane conditions” at the Armenian Army.
All the captives despite various conventions are forcefully taped for false interviews, “confessing” they are saboteurs, spies or defactors from the Armenian Army. Later on they either “commit suicide” or die of “heart failure.” Or they are handed to the Armenian side with a lethal decease. The sad statistics from the recent years is all about this. In 2010, a 20-year-old Armenian shepherd Manvel Saribekyan was declared a spy and dabbed suicidal.
Later spots of tortures were found on his body. In January, 2014, a 77-years-old Mamikon Khojoyan from Upper Karmir Aghbur village, Tavush region, was captured, declared a saboteur and then handed to the Armenian side. In May he died of deteriorated health conditions caused during his captivity. So, having this as the background the return of Hakob Injighulyan seems a real miracle.
