Following the ceremony awarding the Hessian Peace Prize in Wiesbaden, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan answered journalists’ questions, noting that he considers the award a recognition of the regional peace achieved with the participation of the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as international partners. He emphasized that peace must be strengthened and institutionalized in order to make it stable and irreversible.
“You know, first and foremost, this is a recognition of our regional achievement. I do not take it too personally, because, as I said in my speech, I believe that peace is, first and foremost, an achievement of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan. And, of course, as I said, the leader of Azerbaijan also deserves this award.
And, of course, I also emphasized the decisive role of U.S. President Donald Trump. This is an international, regional and national achievement. And that is the most important thing, because this is not simply the achievement of one country or one person.
This is an achievement that creates bridges between peoples and countries. I think this is also a very important international achievement. I also expressed my gratitude to the international partners who supported the peace process.
And now we have a good result. We are now in a good situation. But there is another very important circumstance. We must not take the peace for granted. Peace must be cared for, and we must work for it. We must continue working toward institutionalizing and strengthening peace so that it becomes stable and irreversible. And now we are working in precisely that direction,” the Prime Minister said.
