Russia has expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s readiness to continue supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, according to reports.
Speaking during a media briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “We are well aware of our Turkish friends' willingness to continue to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine. We are grateful to the Turkish side for this.”
Peskov also noted that Moscow currently does not see any immediate opportunity for negotiations to restart, although it continues to keep the door open for future dialogue.
Türkiye previously hosted peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul during the summer of 2025. Later, three additional rounds of discussions took place this year in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. However, the diplomatic process has remained on hold following the outbreak of the Iran war.
Earlier on Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said while visiting Kyiv that reviving the Istanbul negotiations would be a positive step toward advancing peace efforts.
Commenting on broader conflict resolution, Peskov said that many international disputes are “very complex in their structure,” adding that resolving them through a “deal,” in reference to the United States, could be “impossible.”
