Pakistan on Thursday (16 July) urged the United States and Iran to end hostilities and return to talks under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that Islamabad said it helped broker last month.
Speaking at a news briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi called on "all parties to exercise maximum restraint" and refrain from actions that could further undermine regional peace and stability.
He said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding remained "an enduring framework for promoting peace, mutual respect and shared prosperity," despite challenges in its implementation.
"Pakistan will continue to encourage all sides to end violence and resume technical-level talks in accordance with the MoU," Andrabi said.
He also warned that many countries, particularly in the Global South, were being affected by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, expressing hope for "an early normalisation of the situation" and stressing the need to ensure the "safety, security and freedom of maritime navigation."
