On 29 June, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, received Mr. Oliver Röpke, Director at the International Labour Organization (ILO) Bureau for Workers´ Activities (ACTRAV).
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Ellen Manaseryan, President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia and Mr. Gocha Aleksandria, Senior Specialist in Workers’ Activities of the ILO.
The Human Rights Defender presented the main areas of activities of the Human Rights Defender’s Office and the work carried out in the field of labour rights protection.
Ms. Anahit Manasyan spoke about the existing problems in the field of labour rights in the Republic of Armenia, referring to the problems related to a healthy and safe working environment, gender equality and the prevention of discrimination in the workplace.
Special attention was paid to problems related to the exercise of the right to strike, as well as the importance of implementing necessary legislative and institutional reforms in the field.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue cooperation in the protection of workers’ rights and the development of a decent work environment.
