Armenian Ambassador to France Arman Khachatryan on Tuesday met with members of the France-Armenia Friendship Group at the French Senate, led by the group’s chairman, Gilbert-Luc Devinaz.
The chairman of the aforesaid friendship group touched upon the major international events held in Armenia, as well as its parliamentary elections on June 7, and asked the ambassador to speak in detail about them, the embassy of Armenia to France reports.
First, the Armenian ambassador highly appreciated the French Senate’s continued support for Armenia and the Armenian people, including the development of the Armenia-France strategic partnership.
Subsequently, Ambassador Khachatryan touched upon the parliamentary elections in Armenia on June 7 and the results, as well as the post-election developments and the conclusions of international observers.
He spoke also about the 8th Summit of the European Political Community and the inaugural Armenia-EU Summit held in Yerevan in May. He highlighted the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Armenia on May 3-5. He emphasized the importance of the signing of the declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership between Armenia and France within the framework of the visit, which creates new opportunities for expanding cooperation in a number of important areas.
During the meeting, the ambassador of Armenia to France spoke about Armenia's efforts aimed at institutionalizing the peace established in the South Caucasus, as well as highlighting the developments aimed at implementing the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.
In addition, Ambassador Khachatryan drew the attention of the French senators to the situation created as a result of Russia’s economic sanctions on products of Armenian origin, emphasizing the assistance of both the EU and France in this issue.
In turn, the chairman and members of the France-Armenia Friendship Group of the French Senate reaffirmed the commitment of the Senate and the friendship group to continue supporting the peace agenda in Armenia’s region, the processes aimed at strengthening democracy in the country, as well as the strengthening and expansion of the Armenia-France bilateral partnership.
Also, the ambassador of Armenia to France answered the questions of the French Senate members.
