“We have always thought that we live in a very difficult and dangerous region, where our independence and existence are constantly under question. This is partially or entirely true. But the challenge has always been how it is possible to transform this threat into an advantage. And this is exactly what we want to do in Armenia,” Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said during the Yerevan Dialogue forum.
“The entire world is searching for new sources of supply chains and new transport corridors. Being an obstacle means remaining a constant threat,” he said.
According to the Foreign Minister, there is now an attempt to understand whether Armenia can connect Europe with Central Asia, India, China, and the Far East, and this could serve not only as a solution to safeguarding Armenia’s sovereignty, but also as an additional guarantee for a more peaceful and prosperous future.
“We must also note that peace can indeed be an obvious solution; however, on the other hand, one cannot build peace alone, one cannot declare peace when your neighbors consider you an enemy and seek to destroy you.
Therefore, the challenge is to be able to create a situation in which all neighbors and all actors in the region are interested in that very peace, want to ensure that peace, and want to establish a modus vivendi, tolerance, forbearance, and cooperation, which is exactly what we are trying to do right now,” he said.
