Hungary’s newly elected Prime Minister Péter Magyar proposed that Viktor Orbán, who was defeated in the elections, run for the position of President of the European Commission. The post is currently held by Ursula von der Leyen.
According to Magyar, Orbán has a vision and a tough policy on migration. “He enjoys popularity among ordinary people. While Western politicians were lying to the people, it was Orbán who told them the truth about migration,” Magyar said in an interview with the Hungarian news portal Telex.
Orbán, who enjoyed significant popularity, was defeated in the parliamentary elections held in Hungary on April 12. Magyar’s Tisza party won 141 out of 199 seats in the National Assembly (unicameral parliament). Meanwhile, the ruling alliance of Orbán’s Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People’s Party secured 52 seats.
