“If on the scales are Armenia’s independence, the question of existence, whether there will be war or peace in Armenia, whether Armenia will be a semi-independent vassal or an outpost or a normal state, whether the citizens of the Republic of Armenia will live and create in Armenia or will go to other countries and participate in military actions in other territories for other countries, then, I believe, that letter is not only logical but also mandatory.” This was stated by Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan during a parliamentary briefing, in response to a question about why Armenia had invited EU rapid response teams to the country and what they would do there.
In response to the question of who is threatening Armenia’s independence, prompting the invitation of EU rapid response teams, Papoyan said: “All those forces that are subjects of foreign states, whose center of interests is not the Republic of Armenia and not its citizens - either they are not citizens of the Republic of Armenia, or their children were not born in Armenia, and so on.
Referring to the decision to invite EU rapid response teams to Armenia, Papoyan stated: “EU partners are here to ensure that no action that harms or undermines our independence, sovereignty, and future peace succeeds.”
Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas had stated that, at Armenia’s request, the European Union would deploy a special rapid response team to help counter hybrid threats ahead of the country’s elections.
