Former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohsen Rezai has been appointed military adviser to the supreme leader of Iran, the Mehr news agency reported on March 16.
"Mohsen Rezai has been appointed military adviser to the Supreme Commander by decree of Supreme Commander Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei," the statement said.
Prior to his new appointment, Rezai was a member of the Council for Determining the Political Expediency of decisions taken by Iran's highest advisory body, and before that he was the head of the IRGC.
The new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, delivered his first address to the nation after taking office on March 12. The text of the appeal was read out in a female voice and broadcast on television.
The next day, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth announced that the US military was aware of the injury of Iran's new supreme Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. According to Hegseth, he was allegedly "injured and disfigured." The next day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi, denied this information and said that the Supreme Ayatollah was fulfilling his duties and everything was fine with him.
