Moscow and Yerevan will start negotiations on the restoration of two railway sections in Armenia connected to Azerbaijan and Turkey, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said.
“At the request of the Armenian side and guided by friendly and fraternal sentiments toward the people of Armenia, the Russian Federation has decided to begin substantive negotiations on restoring two sections of Armenia’s railways. These will ensure their connection to the railways of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Yeraskh area, as well as to the railways of the Republic of Turkey in the Akhuryan area,” Overchuk stated.
According to the Russian deputy prime minister, the total length of the railway sections subject to restoration is approximately 1.6 km and 12.4 km. During the negotiations, the technical, financial, and other modalities for implementing the project are expected to be determined.
“Strengthening transport and logistical connectivity in the Caucasus is critically important for the peace, stability, and economic prosperity of the peoples of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Turkey, and Russia. We expect constructive cooperation from all countries in the region in addressing this important common task,” the official concluded.
