High-stakes diplomatic talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States have resumed for a second day in Abu Dhabi, as the parties continue discussions on potential pathways to end the protracted conflict.
According to a report by Russia's state-run TASS news agency citing a source, discussions in "various formats" recommenced in the Emirati capital on Saturday. This follows the official opening of the rare trilateral dialogue on Friday, which is being hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
After the initial session, Ukraine's lead negotiator, Rustem Umerov, stated the talks are centered on establishing the terms for "a dignified, lasting peace." From the Russian side, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the efforts to resolve the war—now approaching its fifth year—as "progressing."
Peskov emphasized the importance of implementing what Moscow terms the "Anchorage formula," a reference to the direct meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held in Alaska in August of last year. This signals Russia's view that high-level US-Russia engagement is a crucial component of any settlement.
