TRIPP is first and foremost an economic megaproject. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a National Assembly–Government Q&A session, as he addressed the benefits of TRIPP.
“TRIPP has several layers. The first is that it connects Armenia to the world and to third countries via the territory of Azerbaijan, meaning it can export and import goods. Armenia is also connected to Armenia via the territory of Azerbaijan as well, meaning that from Yeraskh it can travel to Meghri through the territory of Nakhijevan.
The second layer is that the world and third countries are connected to third countries through the territory of Armenia. For example, a Central Asian country [can be connected] to an EU country through the territory of Armenia.
The third layer is, yes, Azerbaijan being connected to both third countries through the territory of Armenia and the establishment of the Azerbaijan–Nakhijevan connection. In other words, this is a connectivity megaproject.
For us, this has strategic significance. We expect significant economic benefits,” he said.
