On January 20, a regular cultural diplomacy–themed event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for foreign diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Armenia took place at the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, the Matenadaran, the MFA reported.
Opening remarks were delivered by David Karapetyan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, who emphasized the importance of holding regular meetings in this format as an important platform for cultural dialogue.
David Karapetyan highlighted Armenia’s significant contribution to the preservation and study of historical and cultural heritage, including ancient manuscripts, as well as its active involvement in international efforts in this field. In this context, the role of the Matenadaran—inscribed on UNESCO Memory of the World Register as early as 1997—was underscored not only in preserving Armenian national memory but also in promoting international commitments to the protection of cultural heritage.
During the event, guests toured the museum, familiarized themselves with the rich collection of Armenian manuscripts and their history, and then visited the institute to study the traditions of preserving and restoring ancient manuscripts and to become acquainted with the specific features of manuscript studies.
