It is very important to compare 2025 with the pre-revolution year of 2018. In 2018, defense expenditures amounted to 245 billion drams, while in 2025 they reached 664 billion drams, or $1 billion 741 million 604 thousand. In other words, defense spending increased by $1.1 billion. Armenian Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan said during a wrap-up press conference.
“I consider it very important to compare the activities of 2025 with the initial, zero, pre-revolution year, given the frequent criticism that insufficient funds are allocated to the defense sector. These figures speak for themselves, to put it mildly”, he said.
According to Papikyan, with emphasis on this fact, 2025 should continue to be regarded as a highly effective year not only in terms of defense spending: “Overall, in my opinion, the sector has benefited greatly in 2025”.
