The Syrian army completed clearing operations in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, meaning that Government forces now control a significant part of the city, including areas previously held by Kurdish forces, Western media report.
Earlier, Syria’s Ministry of Defense announced that a ceasefire had been established in Aleppo following several days of fierce clashes with Kurdish forces. At least 21 people were killed during the clashes between the Syrian Government army and Kurdish forces.
It had been expected that, under an agreement reached with Syria’s new authorities, Kurdish forces would be integrated into the Syrian army by the end of 2025. However, in recent days the sides have accused each other of derailing the deal.
