Turkey’s Minister of National Defense has stated that Ankara and Washington are working to lift part of the U.S. sanctions imposed on Turkey.
“We are aware that President Trump is trying to advance this initiative in the Senate. We are also making efforts in this direction. We have established separate working groups. Turkey and the United States will resolve this issue,” Yaşar Güler emphasized.
He added that Ankara also sees no problem with purchasing F-16 fighter jets from the United States.
“Of course, our priority is the F-35s. We know that Israel and Greece are trying to hinder their acquisition,” the minister added.
Commenting on the issue of purchasing Eurofighter jets, Güler recalled that under an agreement with the United Kingdom, Turkey will acquire 20 new Eurofighters. Relevant negotiations are also being conducted with Qatar and Oman.
