Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, has said that Tbilisi takes into account the interests of Armenia and Azerbaijan in talks on cargo transit via his country.
Azerbaijani news media reported earlier this month that the supply of Azerbaijani petroleum to Armenia via Georgia has been obstructed due to a tariff policy pursued by Tbilisi. Armenian authorities confirmed on December 8 that discussions were held with their Georgian counterparts regarding the possible transit of Azerbaijani fuel. Georgian authorities subsequently said they would grant zero-tariff transit for Azerbaijan’s first fuel shipment to Armenia, which has yet to take place.
Kobakhidze said in an interview with GPB First Channel that the subject of the negotiations ultimately concerns the form in which transit from Azerbaijan through Georgian territory will proceed.
“We fully consider the acceptable interests of the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides. We have our own priorities, and I believe that through negotiations, we will easily find the best way to satisfy the interests of all three countries,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
