On December 17, the Chief of Staff, Secretary General of the National Assembly Davit Arakelyan met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to our country Eva Sundquist.
Welcoming the guest in parliament, Davit Arakelyan congratulated Eva Sundquist on the occasion of launching diplomatic important mission in our country. “Sweden is an important and reliable partner for Armenia, as we highlight the continuous expansion of the political dialogue with friendly Sweden,” the Chief of Staff noted and recorded that in recent years the Armenian-Swedish relations are in a great upswing. According tp Davit Arakelyan, Sweden is also one of the important partnsers in the context of Armenia-EU relations.
According to the Chief of Staff, Armenia consistently continues to implement reforms in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of law and highly appreciates the continuing support of Sweden for the ongoing reforms in Armenia.
Regarding the cooperation on democratic development between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Riksdag of Sweden for 2024-2026, Davit Arakelyan expressed gratitude to the Swedish side for this initiative.
“We highly appreciate the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia project, which greatly promotes our efforts to make the work of the RA National Assembly more transparent, efficient and accountable, and to the establishment of a comprehensive and effective system of good governance in our country,” the Chief of Staff underlined and added that due to the project the Staff of the Parliament deepened the ties with the Riksdag Research Service of Sweden.
Davit Arakelyan spoke about the NA Strategy developed with the support of the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia 2.0 project, emphasized the involvement of Sweden in the Resilient Syunik Team Europe Initiative, which is important with regard to security, economy, as well as ecology.
At the meeting reference was made to holding the 8th Summit of the European Political Community and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 17).
Expressing gratitude to Chief 0f Staff, Secretary General for the reception, the Ambassador spoke about the effective cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Sweden s in recent years. In terms of deepening bilateral ties, Eva Sundqvist emphasized the importance of frequent bilateral visits.
The NA Deputy Chief of Staff Heghine Khachikyan also attended the meeting.
