Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan is in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the 26th session of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly, the Ministry of Economy reported.
During the visit, Minister Papoyan met with Olga Kefalogianni, Greece’s Minister of Tourism. The meeting was also attended by Lusine Gevorgyan, Chair of Armenia’s Tourism Committee.
“The close friendship between Armenia and Greece has deep historical roots, and Armenia highly values the long-standing cooperation between our two countries. Today, we continue to strengthen these ties through new, practical partnerships, particularly in the field of tourism. Tourism is not only an important driver of economic growth but also a bridge for cultural understanding and friendship between our peoples,” Papoyan stated.
The two sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the tourism sector.
Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration on various international platforms in the field of tourism, which would contribute to increasing the visibility of both countries as tourist destinations and creating new investment opportunities. They expressed confidence that implementing joint initiatives would give fresh impetus to bilateral cooperation, promoting the growth of tourist flows and the further deepening of friendly relations between Armenia and Greece.
Minister Papoyan invited Olga Kefalogianni to visit Armenia to become acquainted firsthand with the country’s tourism potential.
Olga Kefalogianni gladly accepted the invitation. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is expected to be signed to strengthen bilateral ties in the tourism sector.
The visit is planned for the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
