Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has called on a Turkish reporter at the Orbeli Forum 2025 to refrain from using the term “corridor” while referring to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, because the term “corridor” could imply extraterritoriality, while the project envisages no such thing.
“Various countries, at different stages of negotiations, had some desire—whether to have a security or military presence along the railway or to exercise control over that infrastructure. But we remember the course of those negotiations, and when someone in that room uses the term ‘corridor,’ it automatically raises concerns for us that there may be some hidden intention that could harm Armenia’s sovereignty. There is an officially agreed name, which bears the signatures of Prime Minister Pashinyan, President Aliyev, and President Trump, and that name is TRIPP,” Mirzoyan said, addressing a Turkish journalist who, while speaking about TRIPP, had used the term “corridor.”
TRIPP is a connectivity project in Armenia envisaged under the U.S.-brokered Armenian-Azerbaijani joint declaration signed in Washington, D.C. The project is expected to unlock strategic economic opportunities, creating long-term benefits by promoting infrastructure investment and enhancing regional connectivity. TRIPP is part of the Crossroads of Peace project. Armenia will maintain sovereignty over the route.
