The first batch of grain imports from Kazakhstan to Armenia is currently underway via the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Armenia railway route. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reminded about this during the joint session of the National Assembly’s standing committees, held as part of the preliminary discussion of the 2026 state budget, referring to Azerbaijan’s statement on lifting transit restrictions.
“In essence, we have no access restrictions through the territory of Azerbaijan and Georgia, nor through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. But my statement refers to all directions, because it may turn out that there is interest in one of the routes, which we are not recording in these conditions. In other words, just as Azerbaijan is lifting transit restrictions for us, we are also lifting transit restrictions in the same way.
Of course, for this statement to be complete, in the near future we must work very intensively on the full implementation of points 3 and 4 of the Washington Declaration of Peace. As a result, the decisions of Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the removal of transit bans toward each other will become comprehensive and complete — meaning not only de jure, but also de facto we will be able to implement all of this,” he said, recalling the content of points 3 and 4 of the Washington Declaration.
