Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Rousopoulos, at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.
Pashinyan was welcomed at the Palace of Europe by Rousopoulos and PACE Secretary General Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis.
The Armenian Prime Minister signed the guestbook at the Palace of Europe.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan and Theodoros Rousopoulos discussed the agenda of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe, highlighting the ongoing reforms aimed at developing democratic institutions and strengthening the protection of human rights and the rule of law.
Prime Minister Pashinyan underscored the Armenian government's commitment to continuing effective partnership with the Council of Europe’s institutions. The sides also discussed procedural ties with PACE, as well as cooperation within the framework of monitoring formats.
The Armenian Prime Minister and the PACE President emphasized that deepening the partnership between Armenia and the Council of Europe is important both for institutional resilience and for the integration processes with the European legal area.
The agenda of the current PACE session was also addressed.
Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked the PACE President for the high-level hospitality and continued support, stressing that Armenia values the Council of Europe's role in promoting the peace agenda in the region, as well as in enhancing the protection of fundamental freedoms and the effectiveness of the judiciary.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness for continued dialogue and the expansion of cooperation.
They also exchanged views on regional and international matters.
The Prime Minister and the PACE President highlighted the initialing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement on August 8 in Washington, expressing confidence that the establishment of peace will provide new and strong momentum for regional cooperation and stability.
