Today marks the 34th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
On this very day in 1991, a referendum was held in which more than 95 percent of Armenia’s population took part. Over 99 percent of the participants answered “Yes” to independence, responding affirmatively to the question, “Do you agree that Armenia should be an independent, democratic state outside the USSR?”
Two days later, based on the results of the referendum, the Supreme Council of Armenia declared the Republic of Armenia an independent state.
After declaring independence, it was necessary to establish and defend it.
The declaration was followed by the process of recognition, and on March 2, 1992, Armenia became a full member of the United Nations.
It should be reminded that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
