President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador of Canada to Armenia, Andrew Turner.
According to the Presidential Office, President Khachaturyan congratulated the Ambassador on Canada's national holiday and asked him to convey his warm wishes to the leadership and friendly people of Canada.
The President noted that the bilateral relations between Armenia and Canada have seen impressive progress in recent years.
“I express my gratitude for the support that the Canadian government provides to Armenia, particularly in matters of independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. This is a very important factor,” said Khachaturyan, adding that independence and sovereignty are key guarantees for people to feel safe in their country and to focus on development.
President Khachaturyan also expressed appreciation for Canada’s support during difficult times, highlighting the country's solidarity with Armenia. In this context, he emphasized Canada's participation in the EU Monitoring Mission, calling it a valuable contribution to strengthening security and peace in the region.
Ambassador Turner, in turn, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and kind wishes.
“I am glad for this meeting. It is always a good occasion to celebrate Armenian-Canadian friendship. This is the second time we are celebrating Canada Day together since the embassy opened here,” the Ambassador said, praising the remarkable progress in bilateral relations over the past year.
Ambassador Turner noted that Canada highly values Armenia's ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. He reaffirmed Canada’s readiness to continue its support in this regard and assist the Armenian leadership in its steps toward strengthening democracy.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in the economic sphere, strengthening trade relations, and expanding collaboration in the high-tech sector.
They also underscored the significance of parliamentary diplomacy and the application of Canadian best practices in developing political culture and democratic institutions.
Opportunities for enhancing cultural ties were also discussed. In this context, the potential for cooperation within the framework of the Francophonie was highlighted.
