We have asked to provide the consular section of the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan the opportunity to visit the Russian citizens. Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this at Wednesday’s press briefing.
“Unfortunately, at the moment the Russian ambassador [to Azerbaijan] has not been given the opportunity to visit the Russian citizens [detained in Azerbaijan], including journalists from Russian media outlets,” said Zakharova.
“We expect that those who want to spoil bilateral relations [between Russia and Azerbaijan] will refrain from further provocative steps. These steps seriously harm interstate relations, and we, of course, call on the Azerbaijani side to take measures to return to the [higher] level of interstate relations [between the two countries]. We are convinced that all emerging issues should be resolved in a partnership manner,” added the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman.
