Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has reiterated that while Armenia is not opposed to the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, such a move must come within the framework of a comprehensive and institutionalized peace.
“We have stated more than once that the dissolution of the Minsk Group is acceptable to us—provided that the peace being established is institutional in nature. We view this in the context of signing a peace treaty,” Mirzoyan said during a press conference.
“Therefore, if we sign a peace agreement—or even set a tangible and realistic date in the near future for such a signing—then we could begin to take steps toward the dissolution of the Minsk Group,” he noted.
At the same time, Mirzoyan expressed concern over Azerbaijan’s approach to the issue.
“On the other hand, Azerbaijan’s hesitation in this regard raises concerns on our part—concerns we are not hiding—that the dissolution of the Minsk Group may serve other purposes for Azerbaijan, purposes that could undermine Armenia’s territorial integrity,” the Foreign Minister warned.
“That’s why we want to ensure that what is being established is a final, comprehensive, and institutional peace. In that case, the Minsk Group would become obsolete on its own,” Mirzoyan concluded.
