The actions of law enforcement agencies cannot serve as a basis for diplomatic demarches. This was stated by Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, as he commenting on the statement by the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, which demands an investigation into the arrests of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
"We sincerely regret the decisions made [by Azerbaijan]," Peskov said. According to him, it is important to continue work to "explain the reasons and nature of the events that, in the opinion of the Azerbaijani side, caused such demarches," RBC reports.
Also, Peskov was asked whether a talk between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was planned. He replied that the talk was "not yet on the agenda."
"But on the other hand, if there is a need for it, then, of course, it will take place as soon as possible," Peskov added.
Russia is interested in further developing "good relations with Azerbaijan," noted the Kremlin spox.
