The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has said that Iran is obliged to cooperate with his organisation as a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
He was speaking in a televised interview recorded ahead of a meeting in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I must remind you of one thing, Iran's cooperation with us, it's not a favor they're doing us, it's a legal obligation as long as Iran remains a signatory or member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. So it's an obligation. During a war, you can't inspect, you can't move, and so on. But as soon as hostilities have ceased, and especially given the sensitivity surrounding this equipment, I think it's in everyone's interest for us to be able to resume our activities as soon as possible", Grossi said.
Iran's parliament voted today, Wednesday, to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, making it more difficult for any independent inspection of Iranian nuclear sites to take place, following US strikes last weekend.
Grossi said his agency no longer knew the location of Iran's supplies of enriched uranium.
