Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan described the recent Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting in Tirana as “rather constructive.”
Kostanyan said the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders have expressed readiness to continue discussions in the direction of signing the peace treaty.
He was asked to comment on the peace talks during the Yerevan Dialogue 2025 forum.
“We assess the meeting to have proceeded rather constructively, and the leaders of the two countries expressed readiness to continue discussions in the direction of signing the peace agreement. We believe that soon it will be possible to continue discussions with the Azerbaijani side,” Kostanyan told reporters.
PM Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev met on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Tirana, Albania.
The Deputy FM said Azerbaijan hasn’t yet responded to Armenia’s latest proposal regarding the unblocking of regional connection routes.
“I think this topic must be included in the agenda of future expected discussions between the sides in the context of overall discussions in the peace process,” Kostanyan said.
Kostanyan said Yerevan is working to resolve the issue of the unlawfully held Armenian POWs in Azerbaijan and the matter is raised in various meetings.
The sooner the peace treaty is signed, the sooner the parties will be able to focus on regional cooperation and coexistence of the peoples, he said.
Speaking about Yerevan Dialogue 2025, Kostanyan said there are over 300 participants from over 40 countries, a significant increase compared to the previous edition. He lauded the forum as a success.
