The matter of Armenians being held captive in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku is on the agenda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, but the concrete steps being taken are not satisfactory. Deputy foreign minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan stated this during Monday’s especial meeting of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly of Armenia and in response to a question from opposition MP Armen Gevorgyan.
The aforesaid lawmaker asked the deputy FM whether the Armenian MFA had the opportunity to raise the matter of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku during its work with the European Union (EU), or through some other channels.
In response, Hovhannisyan added that not only recently, but also always, every MFA official always keeps this matter on the agenda during every event and contact with the EU.
“The concrete actions, steps, to say that we are satisfied with them, no. But we must continue the work. As you know, diplomacy has closed and behind-the-scenes processes; work in that regard continues with both Brussels and member states," the Armenian deputy FM said.
